Quality
You will find that many plants do better flowering under MH than any other lamp. The MH spectrum helps bring out additional compounds that weren’t activated under other lights, producing a fuller, more complex medicine with better flavor, potency, resin, color, and density. In our tests, MH grown flowers also often exhibit a longer shelf life, similar to our observations with quality sun grown herb. Many smokers prefer bulb grown herb over LED grown herb!
Fuller Genetic Expressions
In our lab tests, additional compounds are regularly produced only under MH lighting. One example is our Star Pupil clone, which produces the best flavor and effect when flowered under MH. Labs show that it produces additional rare cannabinoids, CBL and CBC, and additional terpenes Geraniol, Guaiol, Cymene, and Eucalyptol, none of which were present at all when flowered with HPS, LED, or even CMH!
Many of the strains which I bred and selected under LED lights do even better when brought under MH lights! I've noticed wider variety of cannabinoids produced in the same clones, as well as additional nuances to the flavors, and better resin quality that also lasts longer in the cured flowers when stored for long periods.
Bringing Back the Good Ol' Days
Many old-school legacy growers still flower their crops under Metal Halide lamps. They rejected HPS when it became the norm, because they noticed it decreased quality compared to their MH. They again rejected LED for similar reasons. While both HPS and LED can definitely produce amazing flower, there is just something extra special about Metal Halide that keeps experienced growers coming back. Many commercial facilities will run checkerboard patterns using HPS and MH bulbs alternating, because they know that the MH spectrum increases the quality of their plants. We now know that MH are putting out incredible amounts of light, actually near that of an HPS, and can be brought a bit closer to canopy to match the intensity and produce big yields on their own without HPS as well!
Many growers these days are longing for the varieties they had in the past, but something seems to have changed. Today's herb is not always what we remembered from our youth, even when the same strains are cultivated. One aspect many people may be overlooking is the recent widespread changes in lighting! We are bringing awareness to the situation that each plant expresses differently depending on the light it is given. Many home growers are finally achieving the quality they desire, by switching from LED to MH bulbs per our recommendations over the past few years. With our MH lights, many strains will produce these long lost, desirable flavor profiles we all crave, like gas, skunk, sweetness or candy, once again! Many struggle to produce the old school gas and others under LED or HPS lights, as the lights can change which flavors the plants produce. Our bulb can be the solution to this problem!
